Pink Eye

Pink eye is otherwise called conjunctivitis which is condition that causes inflammation to the conjunctiva. Conjunctiva is a clear membrane which covers the inner surface of the eyelids and the outer surface of the eye. Conjunctivitis leads to red color, itching, pain and fluid discharge from the eye.

Home Remedies for Pink Eye

1.    Wash your eyes with clean water and press the eyelids with warm cloth or cotton balls. You can also use warm milk for compressing your eye. This will help you to soothe the itching.

2.    While washing your eyes you can add a little honey to the water and then wash the eyes with that honey and water mix. The antibacterial property of the honey will help you to recover fast. You can also use boric acid for washing the eyes and even for a warm compress.

3.    Keep cool tea bags over your eyes and the tannin present in the tea bags will help you to reduce the inflammation and to soothe the itching of the eye. For making cool tea bags first you have to boil the tea bags and the keep it aside for cooling. Chamomile tea bags are found to be the ideal ones for this purpose as chamomile is a commonly used eye tonic. Instead of tea bags you can also use eye cups filled with luke warm stronger tea.

4.    Jasmine flowers immersed in distilled water for over night can be used as eye drops for treating pink eye.

5.    Calendula is also found to be a good remedy for pink eye. Calendula has good antiseptic property and this will help you to get rid of the inflammation and itching. It can be used as an eye wash or for giving compression to the eyes.

6.    Boil some water and add salt to it and allow it to cool. Dip cotton balls in this water and keep it over your eyes. This will help you to ward off the infection.

7.    Soak a clean and soft towel in a juice of aloe vera and place it over your eyes or you can use the juice as eyewash.

8.    Make eyewash with one teaspoon of baking soda and two cups of water and wash your eyes frequently with this water.

9.    You can make use of the astringent property of the potato for treating the pink eye. Grate a piece of potato and keep over the eyes for 15 minutes and reduce your inflammation.
