Home Remedies for Respiratory Diphtheria

The diphtheria is caused by the contaminant producing strains of the gram-positive bacillus Corynebacterium diphtheriae. This disease majorly affects mucous membranes of respiratory tract hence, medically known as respiratory diphtheria.
Symptoms of the respiratory diphtheria include sore throat, problem in swallowing, mild fever, hoarseness, body ache, appetite loss, malaise and difficulty in respiration. Swelling in neck and enlarged neck lymph nodes are symptoms associated with advanced respiratory diphtheria.
Owing to the communicable tendency of this disease, it is best to keep patient in an isolated room to prevent the spread of disease. Given below are home remedies to cure respiratory diphtheria.
Garlic – Owing to the miraculous healing properties of garlic it is widely used in various home remedies. For optimum results, 3-4 garlic cloves should be crushed and swallowed after retaining it in mouth for some time. Daily consumption of 1 tbsp of crushed garlic cloves for multiple times during a day endows with instantaneous relief from etching, hoarseness and swelling.
Herbs – A blend comprising fine paste of castor leaves, drumstick leaves and 2-3 cloves of garlic is one of the commonly applied home remedy to cure respiratory diphtheria. This blend can be used for inhalation purpose and also as a gargle. For optimum results, the paste should be diluted with lukewarm water to prepare a gargling agent.
Salt – The throat should be rinsed with a gargle prepared with a glass of normal water and ½ teaspoon of common salt. Gargling several times a day delivers effective results against sore throat ailments and assists in relaxing the larynx.
Pineapple – The juice of fresh pineapple consumed at even intervals during day assists in removal of diphtheria membrane and other deposits from throat. The pineapple juice should be taken in small quantities.
Ice Packs – A soft cloth soaked in cold water should be wrapped around the neck to reduce swelling. Ice packs can be used in case of high fever to maintain the body temperature level with in safe limits.
Lemon and Honey – A blend containing equivalent proportions of fresh lemon extract and raw honey mixed in a glass of hot water should be consumed daily for at least 3-4 days. This is an effective remedy to get immediate relief from pain. This is one of the most effective home remedies to cure diphtheria naturally.
