How To Get a Good Sleep

March 26, 2009

A good sleep is essential for good health. Many among us, owing to various physical problems and mental worries are not able to get a fine sleep. Let us look into some simple ways to ensure a good sleep.

Go off to sleep at the same time every night, even if you are not feeling sleepy. You might face some problems for the first few days. Gradually, you’ll notice that you tend to get sleepy at that hour.

Stick to the same room and same bed. This has a psychological effect. As soon as you see your bed, you are bound to feel sleepy. Don’t use your bed as a dining table or study room.

Try reading a boring book if you aren’t feeling sleepy. Or try doing things which will put you off, leaving you no option, but to go off to sleep.

Before going to bed have a relaxing bath in warm water. Reports say that this bath helps in deep sleep too.

Always have your dinner at least 2 hours before bedtime. Otherwise your digestion system will be affected. Also you will feel quite uneasy with your tummy. Drinking a glass of warm milk at bedtime, also gives good snooze.

Do not wear tight fitting clothes at bedtime. Always put on loose fitting cotton clothes. This keeps you relaxed. Your bed room should be airy. It should be spacious too. Make sure, slight disturbances like, mobile phone, door bell, lights doesn’t lie in proximity to your room.

Your bed should invite you to sleep. For this, you need to have neat, clean and fresh smelling bed sheets and pillow covers. An untidy bed may drive away your sleep.

Regular exercises will definitely lead to good sleep. But make sure that you finish with your exercises at least 4-5 hours before bed time.

Avoid afternoon siesta. They tend to have a direct effect on your regular sleep.

We relax the most, when we sleep. Thus, sleeplessness is a serious issue. Don’t ignore it.
