Importance of Protein to Health
Proteins are by far the most important nutrients in maintaining a healthy body. Sufficient amounts of protein are important to keep all body functions working to optimum capacity. Since they are required regularly by the body, it is important to ensure that protein consumption is distributed evenly across all meals that you eat through the day.
A condition called Sarcopenia is very common among the elderly today. It is caused when the muscle strength is lost due to the dificency of proteins in the body. It is, thus, clear that protein is not just a requirement for those who are trying to build bodies and muscle. Maintenance of muscle mass and tone through life is as important. Research has shown that for every kilogram of weight in the body, about one and a half grams of protein must be consumed through the day.
The right choice of protein rich foods is important. You can keep fats down and opt for other varieties.
Breakfast can be had by including eggs, meats and milk. The vegetarians have options of chosing pancakes, dumplings, whole wheat bread, and even oatmeal.
While having lunch or dinner, the main meals, make sure you have some portions of whole wheat pasta, or wheat pancakes. Maize and soya nuggets are also common and very high sources of protein that can be had. Cottage cheese is another food that is low in fat, but high in protein.
Snacks are ideal when they have some component of dry fruits in them. The protein content derived from them is almost irreplaceable.
Try and choose foods that are rich in protein, but low in fats. These make ideal foods.
In whatever form, the strength of proteins cannot be undermined. Ensuring adequate intake of protein thorough life will give you strength and ensure that good health is maintained.
