Importance of Yogurt for the Diet

November 20, 2008

How often most of us try and shed weight by just watching what we eat. We spend hours trying to come up with a suitable diet plan to help lose the extra pounds.

The key to weight watch is to minimise calories and load up on fibre. This makes sure that the body functions are kept healthy, while weight remains in check.

Start the day with a fibrous breakfast of cereal and fruits. Oats make a great cereal since they have virtually no fat and are loaded with fibre. Opt for fruits which give you the benefit on fibre and taste, as opposed to mere juice which only injects sugar into the body and has no fibre content whatsoever. Papayas are the best fruit to have for breakfast on a daily basis.

Make salads an integral part of your lunch. They have high nutritional value in the vegetable content, and are all natural since they are uncooked.

For your evening snack, try having some rusks, toasts or a beverage made from skimmed milk. Gram is another good snack to choose since it fills the stomach easily and has no fat.

Keep dinner as light as possible. Try having some soup half an hour before your dinner. This will minimise your intake at dinner time.

Most people tend to believe that yogurt is fattening. On the contrary, yogurt makes for tasty eating, while it could actually help you lose weight. Yogurt is extremely rich in calcium, and healthy bacterias contained in yogurt can help you lose the extra weight. Yogurt contains many additional fat burning compounds, which, although rich, can help as they are good for the body. It prevents fat storage and boosts weight loss.

Apart from helping you lose weight, yogurt is specially beneficial as it helps the immune system function better, cures constipation, is good for gums and teeth and helps fight bad breath.

There’s no need for guilt the next time you open the lid of yogurt. You are not only doing the body good, and helping lose weight.
