Intestinal Worm Remedy

June 30, 2009

Hardly do we realize that we have worms in our stomach. These intestinal worms or parasites might live in our intestine for years without giving rise to any problem. However, intestinal parasites can sometimes become hazardous to health.

Helminths and protozoa are two common forms of intestinal worms. Roundworms, tapeworms and pinworms are the common forms of helminths. Adult helminths can be seen with the naked eye. Giardia and cryptosporidium are some examples of protozoa found in our intestine. Protozoa are single celled organisms, which are more harmful than helminths.

Symptoms of intestinal worms

Intestinal worms cause abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, dysentery, itching around the rectum, loss of appetite, fatigue and weight loss.

Intestinal worm causes

Intestinal parasites are spread by consuming contaminated food and water. Maintaining cleanliness while cooking and eating are the only means to prevent intestinal worm infestation.

Foods to be avoided

Refined carbohydrate and sugary foods should be avoided during intestinal worm infestation. Consumption of fruits and vegetables rich in fiber should be increased to ease bowel movement. Probiotic rich foods, such as yogurt, should be taken to improve digestion. Intake of citrus fruits, rich in vitamin C, helps to make the atmosphere in the intestine inhospitable for the worms to survive.

Intestinal worm home remedies

Various medications are prescribed to get rid of intestinal worms. However, certain herbal remedies can be effective in curing the symptoms of intestinal worm infestation.

Eating two to three cloves of garlic everyday can help to prevent growth of intestinal worms. People already infested with intestinal parasites can eat garlic to get rid of the worms.

Papaya is extremely effective in getting rid of intestinal parasites. Dilute juice of raw papaya with hot water and drink the solution everyday. Grind a handful of papaya seeds and add it to a cup of milk. Drink this to eliminate intestinal worms. Soak a handful of papaya leaves for about ten to fifteen minutes in boiling water. Add honey to the papaya leaf drink and take it to eliminate the worms.

Wormwood is a popular herb used for removing intestinal worms. Mix wormwood oil with olive oil or water and consume it regularly to remove intestinal parasites.
