Its All About Good Hair

March 21, 2009

Good and healthy hair is something we all wish for. We do so many things to get nice, strong and silky hair. But most of the times we forget to take care of the basic elements of hair-care, i.e. washing, oiling, massaging and combing.

Washing

Washing hair properly is the first step of hair-care. We must know the right methods of hair wash. Always comb your hair before wetting it. This clears up any tangles which always worsen when the hair is wet. Never pull or tug at wet hair as hair is most delicate when wet. Towel-wrap your wet hair after washing it with a mild shampoo of the right pH balance.

Oiling

Oiling your hair twice a week is very essential for good hair. You may oil your hair with coconut oil or olive oil. One may also use henna leaves boiled in mustard oil to strengthen the hair. Amla oil is also very effective for hair growth.

Massaging

Applying hair oil is not enough; one has to ensure that the oil is massaged well and is absorbed into the scalp. Oil is to be massaged into the scalp using finger tip gently so as not to hurt the roots of the hair. After a massage, the cuticles of the hair tend to open up. So never massage your hair using strength. It must all be done gently with care.

Combing

Combing of hair is necessary to give it good shape and also the shine. Comb your hair at least 4 times a day. One must make sure to choose the right size and type of comb to comb one’s hair. Too narrow toothed combs can cause hair breakage and too broad toothed combs do not do combing properly. One may also use a good brush to comb one’s hair.

These are the four basic steps of hair care to ensure good hair and less hair breakage. One may also try hair packs and turban therapy occasionally to get salon perfect hair.
