Jock Itch Home Remedies


Jock itch is an itchy rash that occurs in the private parts of your body. It is usually caused by fungal infection. Although jock itch is not a hazardous infection, nonetheless it is an irritating and bothersome condition.

The medical terminology of jock itch is tinea cruris. Anyone can be affected by jock itch. However, people who sweat excessively or are overweight have a greater risk of developing this infection. The itchy rashes usually develop in the groin. However, they can spread to the inner thighs, genitals and anus.

Jock itch causes

The fungi responsible for causing jock itch normally lives on our skin. They live and multiply in the moist areas of the body. The fungi, known as dermatophytes, are responsible for causing jock itch. The same fungi also cause athlete’s foot or scalp ringworm infection. It has been seen that jock itch often occurs in people suffering from athlete’s foot.

The infection causing fungi thrive in moist and closed areas. Excessive perspiration washes away the natural oil of the body that prevents fungus growth, increasing the risk of jock itch. People who wear tight under garments are vulnerable to fungal infection in the groin. Obesity also increases the risk of developing jock itch. Wearing dirty underwear could also cause jock itch. People with poor immunity are vulnerable to jock itch.

Jock itch treatment

To prevent jock itch infection, you should avoid sharing towels or clothing of persons suffering from jock itch. If your partner is suffering from jock itch, to prevent jock itch, you should avoid sexual intercourse with your partner until his/her fungal infection has healed. Antifungal creams help to heal the fungal infection.

People suffering from this infection should always try to keep their groin area dry. A common home remedy for treating jock itch involves preparing a solution with white vinegar and water in the ratio of 1:4. For best results, try to use apple cider vinegar.

Dip a clean cloth in the solution and put it on the affected area for about five to ten minutes, everyday, until the infection is healed. Washing the groin area with an antifungal shampoo can help to heal the infection. You should avoid wearing tight underwear. To prevent irritation, wear cotton underwear.
