Magic Herbs
The use of herbs in bringing complete harmony in the body is a practice that has been carried on over ages. Today, we continue to use herbal remedies in our daily life, either knowingly or unconsciously. Popular herbs find a place in remedies all the time. There are, however, lesser known herbs that help cure a large number of ailments effectively.
Alfalfa
The use of alfalfa is common in homeopathy. Alfalfa is known to strengthen and build the appetite and also improving digestion. It brings clear urine, and facilitates bowel movement. Tea made from alfalfa is also a very good beverage. It neither excites nor sedates, making it a good choice. The leaves are also used for medical purposes. Alfalfa is used largely to bring about a balance of three human elements, namely, air, fire and water.
Asparagus
This herb needs no introduction really. Popularly known as sparrowgrass, it is a diuretic, brings about clear bowel movement and is very nutritious. It also increases virility and vitality. It agrees more with fire and air temperaments, and has a soothing, calming effect.
Caraway
This is a popular Indian spice. It improves the appetite, subsides gastric distension, removes phlegm and is very useful in stomach disorders. It increases breast milk and is advised to all nursing mothers as it is very nutritious for both mother and child. It also brings about clear menstrual flow. Gripe water, which is commonly given to children, contains one of the distillations of Caraway.
More knowledge of the herbs and spices we use can give us a better indication of how we can treat disharmony in the body. We often use most of the products without knowing the actual worth. Some understanding can benefit us manifold.
