Makeup Tips For Oily Skin

Every woman wants to look perfect all the time. For this it is important to get your makeup right. However, many women are stressed over the problem of oily skin and feel that using makeup will harm the skin leading to clogged pores and acne. Also, it is difficult for the makeup to stay perfect on oily skin for long; makeup on oily skin often leads to greasy and dull skin.

The main reason for oily skin type is excess production of oil by the sebaceous glands. There isn’t much that one can do about the skin type one was born with. But by applying makeup correctly you can achieve that perfect look that all women crave for.

In this article we will discuss makeup tips exclusively for women with oily skin.

Useful Makeup Tips for Oily Skin

Before you begin application of makeup it is important to cleanse your face thoroughly. Women with oily skin should use plain water and a mild, oil-free cleanser for washing the face. Use medicated variety of cleanser instead of cosmetic one.

Avoid using soap as it is not formulated for cleaning the delicate skin of the face. You can even use a mud-pack on the face 30 minutes before you apply makeup. The mineral properties of the mud pack will effectively draw out the excess oil from the skin.

Removing extra oil from the skin will make your skin appear fresher and brighter and application of makeup will be much easier. After washing face apply a light astringent to close the pores. This is important otherwise the chemicals and oil of the makeup will enter the pores and clog them.

1. Applying Foundation

Apply a light moisturizer on the face before you spread the foundation on the skin. Women with oily skin can even skip the application of foundation entirely as it often makes the skin look too heavy. Instead make use of a tinted moisturizer.

If you really need to apply foundation then buy a good quality foundation formulated to suit your skin type. Apply an even and thin layer of foundation with the help of a makeup brush or sponge.

Using your fingers for spreading the foundation on the skin can lead to infections. Also keep your brushes and sponges clean to prevent any skin infections.

2. Eye Makeup

Buy branded eye makeup of good quality to ensure that it does not smudge or disappear a few hours after application. If you have dark circles then first use a concealer to cover them up. Next, apply loose powder or oil-free foundation over the eyes.

This will help the eye shadows stay for a longer time. Women with oily skin should use powder eye shadows instead of creamy ones since the latter will mingle with the oil of the skin and cause your eyes to look heavily greased.

Make use of mascara and eye liners heavily if you wish to skip use of eye shadows. However, eye shadows available in pencil forms can easily save your day as they don’t sit heavy on oily skin.

3.   Blush:

Blush is an important part of the facial makeup because it gives color to the skin. But women with oily skin should prefer using powdered blushes rather than creamy ones. Powder blushes are light in application and don’t cause the skin to turn shiny or greasy unlike the cream based blushes.

After application of the blush dab the area with a tissue to get rid of any extra powder. Women with oily skin should use more of natural and pastel colors in their blushes to ensure that the cheeks don’t look stained and in need of blotting after some time. Using dark color blushes will only cause your oily skin to stand out.

4. Lip makeup:

If you have oily skin then you must prefer using matte shades or lip glosses. People with oily skin don’t have the same problem on the lip area because lips don’t contain oil glands.

However, if you use gloss on the lips it will make your skin stand out. You can take attention away from the oiliness of your skin by making use of matte lipsticks in any shade.

Do not use shimmery makeup products on oily skin. Most of these products are cream based and are formulated to add shine to the face.

However, when used on oily skin they can cause the skin to look heavily greased. Skin shining with oil and cream looks dull and listless. If you cannot resist shimmer entirely then make use of it sparingly and only on your lips.

Use loose powder to take care of any shining areas especially the nose and the T-zone. You can re-apply loose powder as many times as you want over your makeup to take care of the oil secretion. Loose powder will prevent the skin from turning greasy.

If you have oily skin then you must follow a proper cleansing ritual of the skin for removal of makeup. Never sleep with your makeup on under any circumstances.

The chemicals and oil from the makeup will mingle with the sebum and dead cells from your skin and lead to clogging of skin pores. Clogged skin pores will form blackheads which will eventually turn to acne if left untreated. Hence always remove your makeup before retiring to bed.

Use a good cleansing milk to remove makeup. If you run out of your cleansing milk then make use of baby lotion or diluted Vaseline for the same. Spread the cleanser on the skin of your face and neck. Take a cotton ball or a piece of sponge and remove your makeup.

Next, wash your face with a mild cleanser to remove any traces of leftover makeup. Dry your face on a towel and apply an alcohol based toner. The alcohol in the toner will absorb the extra oil from the skin.

Take water based moisturizer and add a few drops of water to it. Spread the diluted moisturizer on your face and neck. Even oily skin needs to be moisturized; leaving the skin dry will cause the sebaceous glands to produce more oil.
