Manuka Honey
Honey is a powerhouse of nutrients. It is one of the most powerful natural medicines. The medicinal benefits of the different varieties of honey are determined by the source of the nectar. Manuka honey is one such honey variety that is noted for its extensive healing properties. This is a mono-floral honey, which is made with nectar collected only from the manuka flowers. Manuka is a native plant of New Zealand.
Difference between manuka honey and standard honey
One of the biggest advantages of using manuka honey instead of standard honeys is that unlike ordinary honeys manuka honey does not lose its healing properties when exposed to light and heat. While ordinary honeys obtain most of their antiseptic property from hydrogen peroxide, the antiseptic property of manuka honey is derived from non-hydrogen peroxide substances. Although body enzymes could destroy hydrogen peroxide, reducing the healing property of standard honey, they could not damage the non-hydrogen peroxide antiseptic substances of manuka honey. Therefore compared to ordinary honey, manuka honey is not only more effective, but also it works faster and can penetrate deep inside the body tissues.
Cures infection
Manuka honey could be used for treating several types of bacterial infection. Manuka honey is one of the richest sources of propolis, a type of natural antibiotic, which is present in honey. It is also rich in bioflavanoids with antibacterial properties. As soon as you notice the early sign of cold or sore throat, take a teaspoon of manuka honey several times a day. This would help to prevent further progression of cold and throat infection. Manuka honey is even effective in treating diseases caused by drug resistant bacteria.
Stomach ulcer remedy
Taking a teaspoon of manuka honey before meals, three to four times a day, helps to cure stomach ulcer. Although manuka honey could kill the bad bacteria in the stomach, which are responsible for stomach infection, stomach ulcer, peptic ulcer and indigestion, the good bacteria in the stomach are not harmed by manuka honey.
Good for the skin
Manuka honey could penetrate deep into the skin tissues. This property of manuka honey makes it a powerful natural substance for treating skin infections, wounds, boils and burns. It even acts as a natural moisturizer for the skin.
