Medicinal Properties Of Aerva Lanata


Aerva lanata is a herb that has woolly branches and has simple alternate leaves. The flowers are sessile, minute, creamy white or greenish in color. The seeds are bean shaped a black in color. It is seen in dry tropical areas and grows in an elevation of 900 meters.

Roots

Roots of aerva are used for treating headache. It can also comfort injuries and inflammation on the skin as it has good antimicrobial activities. A decoction made out of these roots is given to pregnant ladies as a tonic. Decoction made out of aerva roots, fennel seeds and cyperus mtundus is found to be highly beneficial for treating diarrhea. Form people infected with jaundice are given the ground roots of aerva mixed with yogurt.

Leaves

The leaf juice of this plant is used as a remedy for kidney stone. This will get rid off the kidney stone and will also avoid the related infections. The leaf extract is also used for treating fever. Decoction made from the leaves of this plant is beneficial for sore throat and cough.

It is also ideal for guinea worm attack. It is also good for person’s having diabetes and also for indigestion problems. It has the power to stop bleeding from a cut and to heal the wounds. The leaf extract can also cure the eye diseases.

Flowers

The flowers of aerva are also having medicinal properties and are widely used for lowering the lower back pain. The ashes of flowers are used to rub on the back.

The decoction of the aerva lanata is used as a diuretic which is a substance that tends to increase the flow of urine and in turn causes the body to get rid of excess water. It is also useful in treating gonorrhea. Aerva is also beneficial for people having diabetes. The hydro alcoholic extract of this plant can be used as a good remedy for liver diseases. Further inhaling the smoke produced by burning this dried plant can give relief from asthma.
