Medicinal Properties of Bitter Gourd
Bitter gourd is scientifically known as Momordica charantia. It belongs to cucurbitacea family. It is a tropical vegetable and is a vine having slender hairy stem and dense foliage.
It is rich in protein, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, zinc, folic acid, phosphorous, potassium and vitamin B1, B2, B3 etc. It also contains Beta carotene. Bitter gourd contains a hypoglycemic constituent called charantin.
Medicinal Properties of Bitter Gourd
Cholera
You can make use of bitter gourd for treating cholera. Make a mixture of two teaspoon bitter gourd leaf juice, one teaspoon lime juice and two teaspoon white onion juice. Take this mixture daily and this will give you relief from cholera.
Immunity
Juice taken from bitter gourd will help you to fortify your immune system. You have to take bitter gourd juice daily for this.
Eye Sight
Bitter gourd has good amount of beta carotene and hence it can be used for curing eye problems and also to improve the eye sight.
Piles
Magical properties of bitter gourd leaf can be used for curing piles. Take three teaspoon bitter gourd leaf juice and mix it with a glass of butter milk. Take this mixture in empty stomach in every morning for a month. This will definitely improve the situation. You can also apply a paste made out of bitter gourd roots on the piles.
Blood Sugar
The leaf extract of bitter gourd can lower the blood sugar level. The charantin and polypeptide P present in bitter gourd have insulin like property and they are responsible for lowering the blood sugar.
Prevent Tumors
The beta carotene present in bitter gourd is anti oxidant and they will prevent the free radical formation and their binding in to the normal healthy cells of the body. Free radicals are responsible for deforming the healthy cells and there by causing tumors. Thus bitter gourd can help you to prevent the development of tumors.
Respiratory Problems
Mix two ounce of bitter gourd juice with a cup of diluted honey. Drink this mixture daily and you will get relief from bronchitis and asthma.
