Milk Bath


Historically milk bath is associated with beauty and royalty. By bathing with milk, you can improve the quality of your skin. Milk bath is often a part of luxurious spa treatment. It is believed to be beneficial for the skin. Even if you could not afford an exorbitant milk bath at a reputed spa, you can easily indulge in a milk bath in your home.

Benefits of milk bath
How is milk bath different from a regular bath? Lactic acid is one of the main substances found in milk. It is believed to be a powerful exfoliating agent. Lactic acid helps to remove the dead skin cells, dirt and debris from the skin by dissolving the adhesive like substance that holds the dead cells on the surface of the skin. Milk soothes and nourishes the skin. It could reduce skin irritation. Milk bath is suitable for rejuvenating and hydrating your skin.

Milk bath recipe
Milk bath is suitable for all types of skin. It is advisable to use low fat or fat free milk for preparing milk bath for people with oily skin. Others could use regular milk for preparing the milk bath. However, during the dry season, even people with oily skin would benefit bathing in regular milk.

Don’t be deterred by the word milk bath. To prepare a milk bath, you need not fill your bathtub with milk. You need only about two to four cups of regular milk to prepare the bath. Instead of using regular milk, you can use powder milk or buttermilk for preparing the bath. Fill your bathtub with warm water and add the milk to the bath. You can add one tablespoon of honey and few drops of rose oil or a teaspoon of rose water to the bath. The milk and honey bath is believed to be part of Cleopatra’s skin care routine. You can even add few drops of essential oil such as lavender, sandalwood or orange essential oil to the milk bath. Some people add oat to the bath, which could act as a scrubber. To enhance the exfoliating property of the milk bath, you can consider adding good quality facial clay such as kaolin clay, green clay or Bentonite clay to the bath. Before adding the clay to the bath, dissolve the clay in a mug of water, and pour the water in the bath.

After preparing the milk bath, soak in the bath for about fifteen to twenty minutes. Gently scrub your body to loosen the dead cells and dirt. After finishing the milk bath, take a quick shower.
