Morning Sickness Remedy

July 3, 2009

Nausea and vomiting are the early signs of pregnancy. Although known as morning sickness, vomiting and nausea can occur in any time of the day. Morning system starts from around the sixth week of pregnancy and lasts until the twelfth month of pregnancy.

Morning sickness cause

The exact reason for morning system is unknown. It is not harmful for both the mother and the fetus. The nauseating feeling may occur due to hormonal changes in the body during pregnancy. According to a theory, the elevated level of progesterone during pregnancy may be responsible for morning sickness.

Progesterone helps to make the muscles, especially the abdominal muscle, flexible. Secretion of progesterone during pregnancy is perhaps meant to prevent preterm delivery. Another theory suggests that nausea and vomiting during pregnancy occur due to increase in levels of steroid hormone and human chorionic gonadotopin hormone.

Morning sickness, according to doctors, is actually a sign of healthy pregnancy. There are lesser chances of miscarriage in women experiencing morning sickness. However, not every healthy pregnant woman would experience morning sickness. Two-third of healthy pregnancy is characterized by morning sickness.

Hyperemesis gravidarum

However, you can only be concerned of morning sickness when there is excessive vomiting. Hyperemesis gravidarum or excess vomiting causes electrolyte imbalance and nutrient deficiency.

Immediate medical attention is required for pregnant women, when there is excessive vomiting accompanied by weight loss. Through dietary changes, medications and rest hyperemesis gravidarum can be cured. However, severe vomiting along with fever and pain might require hospitalization.

Morning sickness remedy
