Mourning Mid-Life
October 29, 2008
As mid-life approaches, the physiology tends to change almost entirely. Body patterns are altered, the pace of life starts to wear you down, and the approach to ailments also changes. It is no wonder really, that even signs of mid-life approaching start to wreak havoc in our lives.
Mid-life brings on its own share of on and woes. Responsibilities start to ease out, we want to start focussing on ourselves a lot more, and the gravity starts to shift towards quality rather than quanitity. The quality of life begins to improve as introspection starts to gain importance. The flip side is that a range of health nags start to surface, the fear on ageing starts to set in, and the volatile nature of life starts to dawn.
As we age, the tendency to gain weight is accelerated. It is common to see waistlines expanding, and control slipping out of our hands. The incidence of heart, cholesterol and blood pressure problems start to set in. Among the women especially, due to menopause and large hormonal changes in the body, these variations are more noticeable and the incidence is also greater.
For women, there is the additional problem of depression and anxiety related disorders to deal with. Strokes are another threat at this age, as clogging of arteries is more common, and other related factors like blood pressure and weight gain also make their fair contribution.
The key is to be prepared and work towards leading a more fruitful life. If some restraint is exercised during the early years, dealing with mid-life becomes a breeze. Start exercising and keep yourself fit. Choose your own preferred style which you will not bore of, or one that suits your body best. This will help keep your other parameters like blood sugar, pressure in check too. Most body conditions are related, and a breakdown in the system often is a result of many factors put together.
Try and engage in some form of relaxation like listening to music, meditation or introspection. Ths helps lower stress levels and keep the mid refreshed.
An orderly life is the key to good health. Start early and you will find that you have more control over your life in the later years to come.
