Nasal Wash – Cure for sinus problems

We often suffer from sinus or nose problems. Clogged or runny nose are usually harmless conditions that could heal naturally or simple home remedies could help to cure these problems. The mucus draining from the nose into the throat could aggravate respiratory disorders. Nasal or sinus congestions are often associated with chronic respiratory problems such as asthma or allergic rhinitis. Nasal wash, also known as nasal irrigation, is a time tested folk remedy that could remove the mucus clogging your nose and sinuses.

Benefits of nasal wash
Numerous benefits are associated with the nasal wash process. It helps to remove the mucus, irritants, allergens, bacteria and viruses trapped in the nose and sinuses. This helps to cure infections and allergic reactions. By removing nasal congestion, nasal wash improves air circulation through the nose, helping you to breathe efficiently. Regular use of nasal wash could significantly reduce the risk of respiratory allergies and infections.

Nasal wash procedure
For nasal wash, you need two cups of warm water, ¼ teaspoon of salt and a pinch of baking soda. You should avoid iodized salt for preparing the nasal wash. If used for a prolonged period, iodized salt could irritate your nose. To administer the saline solution in your nose, you need a bulb syringe. Before preparing the nasal wash, wash your hands with a medicated soap. Take a bulb syringe, and fill the syringe with saline water. Bend forward on a sink and insert the tip of the bulb syringe slightly inside the nose. Gently squeeze the syringe and allow the liquid to move into the nostril. The saline solution will now come out from your other nostril or mouth. Now repeat the procedure by inserting the syringe in your other nostril. After completing the process, discard the remaining saline solution and clean the syringe, dry it and store it in a clean airtight container.

To cure sinus congestion, you can take nasal wash two to three times a day. Although, saline nasal washes could be made at home easily, you can even use over-the-counter commercial nasal wash solution for the process. If you don’t have a blow syringe, you can simply pour some saline solution on your palm and sniff the solution. This might not be an effective nasal wash procedure, but it sometimes helps to clear mild congestion.
