Natural Cures For Scurvy

Scurvy is the bleeding of the gums that is caused by the deficiency of ascorbic acid or vitamin C in the body. Lack of ascorbic acid makes the capillaries weak and fragile and they may rupture and cause bleeding.

This disease will also make the person weak and tired and at times develops skin discoloration in the legs and thighs. People who are using too much alcohol and who are subjected too much stress are also susceptible to this disease.

Treatment for Scurvy

Mango Powder

Dry mango powder contains a lot of citric acid and this will help you to get rid of this disease. You can also use green raw mangoes for making dishes or can be taken directly.

Gooseberry

Gooseberries are rich in vitamin C and are a good remedy for curing scurvy. Dry gooseberries and make powder out of them. Also add some powdered sugar to this gooseberry powder. Add one teaspoon of this powder to some milk and drink this. Repeat this thrice in a day and will be benefited.

Mother’s Milk

In order to prevent scurvy in kids mothers have to feed their babies with breast milk. This is because the breast milk will develop immunity in kids and the nutrients present in the milk will protect your baby from scurvy.

Diet

Since scurvy is a deficiency disease you have to take much care in your diet. You should take enough fruits and vegetables in everyday like tomatoes, grape fruits, green peppers, oranges, sweet potatoes, cabbage etc. Along with these include whole grains cereals, seeds, milk, nuts etc in your diet.

Potato

Potatoes have a lot of vitamin C in them and the consumption of potatoes will help you to get rid of scurvy.

Jaundice Berry

Jaundice berry is also a good remedy for scurvy. The leaves of jaundice berry have anti scurvy property. Pluck the leaves and keep them in shade for drying. Take 15 grams of this dried leaves and boil them in half liter of water and make it reduced to one third of its actual quantity. Take 150 to 175 ml of this liquid at a time. You can also take the juices taken from the jaundice berry.

Honey and Lime

Add the juice taken from one lime to a glass of water and to this add one tablespoon of honey. Mix the liquid well and drink it slowly with small sips.
