Natural Mosquito Repellents
Mosquitoes are two winged insects and their females used to suck blood from human beings. They act as carrier to many microbes and other pathogenic organisms and transmit these diseases to human beings at the time of their bite.
In order to avoid such infections you need to avoid the mosquito bite. Here are some tips to avoid mosquitoes. Mosquitoes used to detect people with some complex methods like attractants and they will be very active during dusk and dawn.
Mosquito Attractants
Mosquitoes find people easily if they wear dark clothing or if they are near to dark colored foliage or clothes. They can identify dark colors from a distance. If you are using fruity or floral scented perfumes, sunscreens, hair products, fabric softeners etc then the mosquitoes will attack you more. Carbon dioxide is another factor that attracts mosquitoes and hence you will get attacked more while resting after exercise or sitting near a burning candle.
Lactic acid is another source that attracts mosquitoes and your body will produce more lactic acid if you are taking high potassium or salty foods. Even exercising will emit lactic acid from your body. Cool skin temperature and moisture on the skin will attract mosquitoes towards you. In order to control mosquito bite you need to avid all these conditions.
Mosquito Repellents
Mix ten to twenty drops of essential oil with two tablespoon alcohol or carrier oil. You can then spray or rub this mixture on your skin or clothes. While using natural mosquito repellent care should be taken to avoid the areas around the eyes.
The essential oils that have mosquito repellent property include lemon eucalyptus oil, geranium oil, peppermint oil, clove oil, citronella oil, cinnamon oil, rosemary, castor oil etc. As carrier oil you can use sunflower oil, olive oil, vodka, witch hazel or any of the cooking oils.
You can store the excess mosquito repellent in cool dark place closed in a dark bottle. You can also use garlic extracts for repelling mosquitoes. You can also mix eight drops of lemon eucalyptus oil with six ounce water and can spray it on the body and clothes.
