Aloe Vera, commonly known as the wonder plant, is perhaps the only plant with such a wide variety of medicinal usage. Its medicinal properties had been noticed centuries ago when it was used during the first surgeries made by Man. Known to be available in as many as 300 species, the most commonly used variety is Aloe Barbadensis Miller. The best quality of Aloe Vera is that it can be both consumed orally and applied externally.
Aloe Vera has various medicinal benefits; it can be used as a diet supplement or as a beauty enhancing medicine. It can be used to treat burns and cuts as it enhances recovery. When consumed orally, it can act as a cure for heartburn, arthritis, asthma and also lowers blood sugar level during diabetes. It is a common medicine for kidney infections and ulcers.
It has become very popular because of its special quality to enhance good skin. Aloe Vera acts as a very good protector against the dangerous Ultra-Violet rays of the sun. Its natural sunscreen effect makes it a favourite among young people of both sexes.
It is also used in healing scar-marks, skin rashes and blemishes on the skin. It works wonderfully for the treatment of wrinkles and pigmentation. A glowing skin can be assured if one consumes Aloe Vera as a health drink. It also acts as a very good moisturiser and is often used in preparing moisturisers, soaps and other cosmetics and toilet articles.
Aloe Vera can also be used for hair care. It can be used as a shampoo or as a hair oil to treat baldness. Aloe Vera gels are also very effective in the treatment of baldness.
Apart from these, Aloe Vera can be consumed as a health food as it has low fat contents and acts as a check to obesity. However, one must always consult one’s doctor before using Aloe Vera as it has different affects on different skin types.
