Nutrients in Breast Milk For Infants
We tend to forget that infants have feeding requirements much unlike the ones we do. The diet of an infant is largely centered around the milk it drinks. Doctors, and most health practitioners worldwide have said that a diet of mother’s milk alone is the best for infants till they are at least six months old. Introducing other first foods after this may be done along with nursing the child.
Mother’s tend to worry overly while nursing the child, especially since it can be a little difficult to gauge the amount of milk a baby might be drinking. There is always the anxiety of whether or not the baby is getting enough. Do not worry, all children feed as much as they need, and will let you know if they need more. And if you are getting enough soiled diapers, you are on the right track.
A lot of women from the older generations tend to believe that few foods must be given to children even as they feed, especially since they did the same with their children. This, is however, completely unnecessary as mother’s give children all the nutrition they need as long as they reach six months. Additionally, breast milk is not only found to more easily digestbile, but also has more balanced nutritive values. Immunity of children is best when they nurse from the mother. It is also found that children who have fed longer on breast milk have higher IQ’s.
Often, mothers get troubled that their child might not be digesting milk enough and have indigestion. It is common to administer home remedies they have heard of from their grandmothers. Commonly, they are not aware of the exact dosage to be administered. Also, apparatus used to make pastes, powders and liquids could lead to infections. It must be understood that mother’s milk is the simplest, lightest, and most easy form of food for children and can not in any way upset them. The only care that needs to be taken is to make sure the child is not lactose intolerant. In this case, the mother should avoid drinking milk.
