Oiling – An Essential Part of Hair Care

March 16, 2009

Oiling is an amazing method to help remain the moisture content high from the root to the tips, and works finest in grouping with additional particulars. There are a variety of oil choices…the two main ones tend to be Jojoba Oil, and Coconut Oil. Almond oil is popular too. Oil provides a protective coating to the hair.

To oil the hair is fairly simple. Take a little quantity of oil, rub between the palms to warm and melt a bit. Apply the oil to pre-washed, already fully dry and detangled hair. Start from the earlobes and move downwards. Set the palms on either side of the hair length on one side and simply move in downward strokes through the hair.

Those with thick hair require dividing the hair more to get more into the deeper inner layers to get some oil there too. This oil should be left on as the leave-in conditioner and be removed in the next hair washing session.
Avoid applying oil just before hair wash for it doesn’t get ample time to penetrate, overnight applications are best.

Coconut oil is best suited to remove dandruff complaints, whether the flakes are caused by dry scalp, or fungus, coconut oil will help, because it’s a great moisturizer, and it’s anti-fungal. Regular application of coconut oil promotes hair growth, reduces hair fall and prevents premature graying.

Some age old grandma recipes using coconut oil are listed below:

Heat coconut oil with 5 gms of aloe vera, few pieces of dried gooseberry pieces and a hand full of fenugreek seeds. Allow it to cool and apply using fingertips. This mixture ensures healthy hair.

To get rid of dandruff, a mixture of lemon juice and coconut oil may be applied in the affected parts.

For long black hair – heat some coconut oil with curry leaves, hibiscus flower and hibiscus leaves and a dash of turmeric powder, allow it to cool and apply in circular motion. It’s most effective when left overnight.
Oiling is must for a beautiful hair, today and tomorrow.
