Pain Relievers – Different Options

There seems to be no dearth of physical pain in our lives. From an accidental fall to arthritis pain, we are frequently bothered by different forms of pain. If it hadn’t been for the pain relievers, we had to endure the pain, until the underlying disease or health condition causing it subsided. Painkillers are available in different forms. You can buy over the counter pain relievers or ask your doctor for a prescription pain relief medication. Even nature has given us several natural pain relievers that could reduce the body pain rapidly.

How pain relievers work
When we hurt our self, the damaged cells present at the site of the injury secrete a chemical known as prostaglandin. The nerve ends in our body associated with the pain stimuli are extremely sensitive to prostaglandin. As soon as the cells begin to secrete this chemical, the nerve endings transmit the pain signals to the brain and you experience pain.

Pain relievers reduce pain by preventing production of prostaglandin. In the absence of prostaglandin, the nerve ends associated with pain could not sense pain in the body.

Over the counter pain relievers
Over-the-counter pain relief medications are found in the form of aspirin, acetaminophen, ibuprofen and ketoprofen.
