Preparing Herbal Tincture
Herbal tinctures are the herbs in the liquid form. They can be called as herb extract also. They possess all the properties of the herb and are easy to use and preserve. Tincture are used for both remedial and rejuvenation purpose. Immense benefits which are gained by tincture justify its preparation at home.
It’s relatively easy to prepare the herbal tincture. It requires very little effort. Ingredients required for preparing the tincture are distilled water, alcohol or apple cider vinegar with the herbs. Do not use rubbing alcohol or wood alcohol for tincture preparation.
Alcohol which can be used could be 190-proof Everclear. Apple cider vinegar is prescribed to be the base solution instead of alcohol if the tincture is prepared for children. However, alcohol tincture is known to be best as alcohol extracts the herb essence more than the vinegar. Follow the below mentioned procedure to prepare an herb tincture.
Required Ingredients
• Apple Cider Vinegar or Alcohol or Distilled Water.
• 300 gm Fresh Herb or 200 gm Dried Herb.
• Mason Jars – 2.
• Cheesecloth.
• Brown Paper .
Instructions
• Place the herbs in the jar to start with the herbal tincture.
• Pour alcohol or distilled water or vinegar in the jar on the herbs. Liquid should cover all the herbs and should be above an inch.
• Place the jar cap and close it tightly to avoid any leakage or evaporation.
• Wrap the jar with dark cloth and place it in dark area for the period of two weeks. Shake the jar daily.
• Take the jar out after two weeks.
• Cover the mouth of jar with the cheesecloth and pour the liquid in the jar in another jar.
Now your tincture is ready to be used as per your requirement. Remember to store the tincture at a dark place and label it with the date of preparation as the tincture are known to hold good for two years.
