Preventing Chapped Hands
The dry, red and cracked hand makes you cry. Your hands are so rough that you are scared to touch someone with them. However, if you are careful enough, you can treat chapped hands.
Causes of chapped hands
Chapped hands occur due to several reasons. If you neglect hand care, your hands may become rough and cracked easily. Sometimes our body loses its natural oil and our hands lose their suppleness as we age. Often the dry months, when humidity is very low, can dry our skin.
Avoid water
Our hands become dry from excessive washing and cleaning tasks. Water removes the natural oil of our hands, making them dry and rough. If you are prone to chapped hands, maintaining moisture of your skin is a major challenge. Try to keep away from water as much as possible. Wear gloves while working with water. According to dermatologists, cotton gloves are preferable to rubber gloves. Rubber gloves, by trapping the moisture of your skin, prevent the skin from breathing, causing further skin damage. Rubber gloves also cause friction, which can be quite painful at times. While using cotton gloves, replace the gloves as soon as they become wet. Hot water is the worst enemy for chapped hands.
Avoid soap
Soap and detergents are also responsible of removing oil from your hand. You should always use a mild soap for washing your hands. Instead of using soap and water to wash your hands, you can consider using oil free skin cleanser for removing dirt from your hands.
Apply moisturizer
Always keep your hands moist by applying skin moisturizer or a body oil. Sunlight can make your hands dry. Therefore, when you are outdoors remember to apply a sun protection cream on your hands.
Use soft towels
Always pat your skin dry with soft towels. Never use hot air blowers to dry our hands. Hot air blowers are responsible for drying the skin further.
