Psoriasis Treatment in Winter

Psoriasis being a skin disease produces dry red patches on the skin and these patches may be covered with scales. This is due to the excessive growth of the skin cells and it flares up on the skin. It may occur any where in the body particularly on the scalp and on the skin above the bony prominence. It may also appear on genitalia and on the back of ears. The scaly patches may often produce itching and discomfort. During winter the skin becomes drier and the dryness may aggravate the psoriasis problems.

Manage Psoriasis During Winter

Avoid Hot Showers

While bathing take care to avoid hot showers or hot bath. This is because the hotness of the water may irritate your psoriasis affected skin more. Hence it will be better to avoid hot water and use tepid water for bathing. While taking bath you can also soak you in luke warm water containing either sea salt or Epsom salt or oil for about 15 minutes. You can also prefer oatmeal soak and this may help you in soothing and softening the tissues and makes your skin hydrated. Never ever try to scrub the scales as this may make your condition worse.

Moisturizer

After taking bath you need to apply moisturizer on your skin especially over the affected area. In winter season you may need to apply moisturizer at least three times a day. Try to clean your skin with luke warm water every time before applying the moisturizer. This may help you to keep your skin moisturized and thus reduces the scales and itching on the skin.

Chamomile Essential Oil

Take an ounce of olive oil or any other carrier oil and add one drop chamomile essential oil to this. Mix them well and apply on your damp skin. This will act as a natural moisturizer and balance your skin moisture against the winter. Apply this twice a day and it may also sooth your body and mind equally.

Humidifiers

If possible use humidifiers at your home and office as this will contribute to moisture to the surroundings and helps you to avoid the dryness and the related psoriasis problems.

Eat healthy foods and drink a lot of water to keep yourself hydrated. Also try to control, your stress by using stress relaxing techniques. This is because stress has a major role in aggravating the psoriasis symptoms.
