Remedies for Ankle Pain
Ankle pain may be the result of sprain in the ankle. It may be a ligament tear or tendon inflammation. It can also be due to excessive strain on ankle like standing for a long time, walking etc. The ligament tear can be mild, moderate or severe depending on the severity of the injury. If you have severe pain accompanied with popping sounds then you may have a severe injury and you need medical attention. If you have a mild or moderate pain then there are treatments that can be practiced at home.
Home Remedies for Ankle Pain
Ice Bandage
The immediate remedy that can be practiced at home is applying ice bandage over the ankle. Apply ice bandage for about 15 minutes in every two hours time and you should repeat this for about 2 days. This will help you to reduce inflammation and the resulted pain in the ankle. Instead of ice bandage you can also insert your leg in to a bucket of cold water.
Crutches
If you have sprain on your leg then you have to bandage your ankle. You can wrap your ankle comfortably with an elastic bandage. It will be better to avoid giving pressure on the leg. You can use crutches while walking.
Garlic and Coconut Oil
Both garlic and coconut oil have the powers to reduce the swelling and the accompanied pain in the ankle. Combine three tablespoon each of coconut and garlic oil and warm the mixture slightly. Then massage the oil on your ankle for about ten minutes. This allows the oil to penetrate in to the skin and helps you to get relief from the pain.
Camphor oil and Sunflower Oil
Combine equal quantities of camphor and sunflower oil and apply this mixture on your affected area. This will reduce the swelling, pain and the discoloration on the skin.
Cabbage Leaves
The vitamins and minerals present in cabbage can help you to cure the pain in the ankle. Gather the outer layers of cabbage leaves and blanch them in boiling water. Now wrap these leaves around your ankle and it will reduce the pain and swelling.
Prevent the Ankle Sprain
Stretch exercise or range of motion exercise may help you to strengthen the ankle joints and may also give flexibility to the ligaments and tendon. Thus exercise protects you from getting sprains.
