Diverticulitis is the infection in the diverticulum that is formed in the colon and especially in the sigmoid colon. Presence of hard stool may leads to the development of excessive pressure inside the colon. This excessive pressure in turn leads to the protuberance of the intestinal lining through the cracks and weak spots in the colon. The pouches thus formed are called diverticulum. This diverticulum may at times become infected and this condition is called diverticulitis.

The affected person may have abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, bleeding and even at times the infection in the colon creates obstruction in the colon. Here are remedies that may help you to ease the disease.

Remedies for Diverticulitis

Diet

You must take extra care about your diet and take foods that are rich in fibers like whole grains, nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables. Millets, oats, flax seeds etc are also found to be beneficial. The affected persons need to take small meals frequently and try to avoid the processed, fried and refined foods. Coffee, tea, pickles, condiments, fried, oily, acidic foods etc are also not good. Take enough water as it helps to make bulky and soft waste in the colon and thus ads in easy bowel movements.

Brown Rice

Brown rice is a very good remedy that can create magic on the digestive system. Being rich in fiber, brown rice helps to calm down the spasm and inflammation in the colon. You can take brown rice mixed with vegetables as a breakfast item. Or you can mix brown rice with honey.

Papaya

Ripe and red tinted papayas help you to sooth the inflammation in the diverticulum and colon. Either take ripe papaya as such or make it in to juice.

Garlic

Garlic is also an ideal remedy for diverticulitis. Take one clove of garlic at least three times a day. You can add garlic glove in to raw salad or add it to the food after cooking. Heat may wipe out the medicinal qualities of garlic.

Pear and Potato

Pear is also a good remedy for diverticulitis. Similarly the anti-inflammatory property of potato is also ideal for digestive problems.
