Remedies For Gastritis

Gastritis is characterized by inflammation of the stomach lining. If left untreated, gastritis could develop into peptic ulcer or even stomach cancer. Gastritis that develops suddenly is known as acute gastritis. If the inflammation of the stomach lining occurs gradually, the condition is known as chronic gastritis. With proper treatment, gastritis could be healed easily.

Gastritis Causes

The mucus membrane forming the lining of the stomach protects the stomach walls from the corrosive acid contents of the stomach. If for some reason this protective barrier of the stomach is damaged, the stomach wall will be exposed to the digestive acids. The acid corrodes the stomach lining and causes inflammation. Gastritis, particularly chronic gastritis, is caused by bacterial infection. H. pylori, the bacteria responsible for gastritis, are believed to be present in the stomachs of a large chunk of the global population. However, only few people infected with this bacterium suffer from gastritis. Factors such as genetics, stress, smoking and lifestyle are believed to make a person vulnerable to the gastritis causing bacteria.

Prolonged use of pain relief medications and alcoholism could damage the lining of the stomach, causing gastritis. People suffering from any autoimmune disease such as Addison’s disease or Hashimoto’s disease could develop a rare type of gastritis, known as autoimmune gastritis. People with type 1 diabetes or vitamin B12 deficiency could also develop autoimmune gastritis. Your stomach lining could be corroded by bile flowing into the stomach from the gallbladder. The condition, known as bile reflux disease, is one of the causes of gastritis. Injury, burn, trauma and stress could damage the stomach lining, causing gastritis. Parasitic infections, HIV infection, liver and kidney failure, Crohn’s disease and certain connective tissue disorders could cause gastritis.

Gastritis Remedies

A healthy diet and lifestyle could help to treat gastritis. Usually antibiotics are prescribed to kill the bacteria responsible for the stomach illness. Folk healers often recommend coconut water for treating gastritis. Ginger can help to reduce the inflammation of the stomach lining. Moreover, ginger reduces nausea and aids digestion. Licorice is often recommended by herbalists for treating gastritis. To cure the symptoms of gastritis, you can take potato or carrot juice. In the initial stage of the disease, your diet should comprise primarily of fibrous fruits and vegetables and fluids.
