Remedies for Mononucleosis

Mononucleosis is also called kissing disease, glandular fever, mono or Pfeiffer’s disease. This disease is commonly seen in young adults and in teenagers.
Mononucleosis is caused by a virus called Epstein-Barr Virus and this disease is spread through the contact with infected saliva through sneezing, kissing, lip gloss, coughing, straws etc.
Symptoms of Mononucleosis
Swelling with in the tonsils and lymph gland, sore throat, headache, fatigue, fever, loss of appetite etc are the common symptoms of mononucleosis. Enlargement of the liver and spleen are also seen at times and it may also result in jaundice and pain in the left abdomen. Irregular and fast heart beats, joint pain, muscle soreness etc are also seen.

Diet
A healthy diet may help you to improve your immunity and will also help you to reduce the discomfort caused by the disease. Eat a lot of antioxidant rich foods like green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, cherries, blueberries etc. Use vegetable oil or olive oil for cooking and drink a lot of water. Try to avoid white breads, red meats, sugar, pastas, cookies, French fries, processed food, onion rings, margarine, coffee, tobacco, alcohol etc.
Rest
Rest is found to be the best remedy for mononucleosis as spleen, liver etc are effected in this disease.
Gargling
Salt water gargling will give soothing effect to your throat. Gargling with licorice and slippery elm bark is also ideal for this disease.
Garlic has the powers to fight against viral infection and hence take garlic daily
Extracts
The extracts obtained from wild indigo plant and cleavers can clean the lymphatic system. While the extracts from elder flower and yarrow can help you to get relief from the fever. Intake of 30 ml cranberry juice with out any added sugar will help you to fight against the disease. Intake of 900 milligram of Echinacea daily for about a week is found to strengthen your immune system.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy with essential oil like eucalyptus, bergamot, lavender etc will give you relief from fatigue.
