Remedies for Vaginal Dryness
Vaginal dryness is largely a sign of aging. Hormonal changes during and after menopause causes loss of lubrication in the vaginal area. Nearly 40 percent of women experience vaginal dryness during menopause.
Vaginal dryness causes
The hormone estrogen maintains the lubrication of the vaginal area. Drop of estrogen level during menopause is therefore the primary cause of vaginal dryness. Besides menopause, estrogen level can decrease during childbirth, lactation and perimenopause.
Vaginal dryness can also be the side effects of ovarian cancer treatments, ovarian surgery, smoking and poor immunity. Certain cold and allergy drugs and antidepressants can also cause vaginal dryness. Douching or cleaning the vaginal area with a liquid solution could cause vaginal dryness.
Vaginal dryness symptoms
Loss of lubrication in the vaginal area makes the region dry. Vaginal dryness causes burning, itching and pain around the vaginal area. Sexual intercourse might cause pain and mild bleeding. Sometimes women suffering from vaginal dryness experience excessive urgency to urinate and the frequency of urination might increase.

Estrogen based creams or tablets are generally recommended for the treatment of vaginal dryness. Taking aloe vera gel with milk helps to lubricate the vagina. Add one teaspoon of saffron to milk and take it regularly to cure vaginal dryness.
Regular consumption of flax seeds also helps to lubricate the vaginal area. Certain herbs, such as black cohosh and dong quai, are used by folk healers to treat vaginal dryness. These herbs contain phytoestrogen, which could replenish the estrogen lost in our body. Regular consumption of soybean and soy products is also beneficial for treating vaginal dryness.
Isoflavones present in soy could reduce symptoms of vaginal discomfort. Comfrey salve could be used for treating vaginal dryness symptoms. Allantoin present in comfrey salve helps to reduce the irritation.
