Saving Ageing Skin

December 26, 2008

As women age, the biggest worry tends to be over keeping the body and skin looking young and healthy. Women are prepared to invest a great deal of time and money in keeping the skin looking youthful and fresh.

The main focus in keeping the health of the skin in order is by regulating habits, eating a balanced anti- ageing diet and getting sufficient sleep.

As far as taking care of the skin is concerned, the regular routine of cleansing, toning and moisturizing for the face should never be skipped. This helps maintain balance in the skin and allows it to be clean and healthy. A good face wash is important for the skin, and should be bought keeping in mind the skin type. Avoid scrubbing the skin, since this could cause chafing.

Instead of wiping the face dry, use a thin, soft towel to pat it dry, which prevents abrasive action against the skin. Good sunscreen is also very important for the skin. Try and choose sunscreen that agrees with your skin type. Gels are the best variant for oily skin.

In our attempt at keeping the body clean, we sometimes tend to overdo things. Avoid very frequent manicures and pedicures as they could harm the cuticles. Avoid leaving nails painted for very long, as it could cause pigmentation of the nails.

The diet is also of most importance. Vitamin C helps prevent pigmentation, and is a must for everyone. Lots of water is necessary to keep the skin hydrated. Juices, green tea and buttermilk are also known to be very beneficial. Milk, walnuts and fish help in retaining moisture in the skin. All fruits that are colourful are a blessing, since they contain elements that help protection against sun damage, and help prevent ageing.

Regular exercise is not only necessary in keeping the body in shape, but is also a must to keep the skin looking young. Since exercise helps improve circulation of blood in the body, it also keeps the skin youthful and better toned.

Treatments are available today to help reverse ageing problems like sagging skin, wrinkles, and crow’s feet. These include botox, hyaluronic injections, radiofrequency and mesotherapy.
