Scalp Oil – Hair care with scalp oil

Scalp oil is an essential ingredient for hair care. Massaging your scalp with good quality oil provides nourishment to the hair follicles. Scalp massaging even stimulates blood circulation in the scalp, increasing the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles and preventing hair fall. Scalp oil can even help to reduce scalp dryness. Who needs scalp oil?
The dryness or oiliness of the hair depends on the number of oil glands present on the scalp. People with oily hair have excess amount of oil glands on their scalps. The excess sebum secretion makes the hair oily within a short period. On the other hand, lesser numbers of oil glands on the scalp makes the scalp and the hair dry. To make the frizzy hair manageable, there is no better option than applying scalp oil. Scalp oil is therefore best suited for people with normal to dry hair.

However, if you are troubled with the overflowing oil in your hair, you can use small doses of light scalp oil occasionally. Scalp oil is also recommended for repairing hair damaged by chemicals and heat used for hair styling. Frequent use of scalp oil could reduce split ends. A refreshing scalp massage with oil in a spa helps to relax the mind and alleviates stress.

Types of scalp oils
You will come across several types of scalp oils. It is advisable to use natural oils for massaging your scalp. Coconut oil, olive oil, sesame oil, almond oil and jojoba oil are popular scalp oils that nourish and moisturize the scalp. Rosemary and lavender oil can be used for conditioning the hair and promoting hair growth. You can use single scalp oil or blend several scalp oils to prepare a nourishing scalp moisturizer. If you are suffering from a bacterial infection or dandruff, you can apply tea tree oil on your scalp. Tea tree oil could be used even on oily scalp.

Tips for applying oil on scalp
After selecting the appropriate scalp oil, pour some oil in a bowl. Place the bowl containing oil in a bigger container containing hot water. After about ten to fifteen minutes, after the oil becomes warm, dip your finger in the warm oil, part your hair and apply the oil on the scalp. Start applying the oil from the hairline and move backwards in the direction of the neck. While applying the oil, mildly massage the scalp. Leave the oil on your hair overnight or for at least 30 minutes, and then wash your hair with a mild shampoo.
