Settling An Upset Stomach


Eating too much food, or wrong food can have serious aftermaths. Stomach troubles can not only cause a great deal of discomfort, but can also trigger off a series of other ailments that could take a while to get under control.

Food is not the only cause of disturbances in the stomach. Often, inadequate rest and stress can also hamper the process of digestion and cause upset stomachs. Quick fixes for indigestion can help bring it under control rapidly.

Ginger tea or ginger juice had after a meal can help digest food and feel much lighter. Not only in the case of an upset stomach, but also when you feel you have eaten too much, reach out for some ginger ale. Herbal tea is another preparation that helps digest food and settle the stomach well.

Mix water with some mint essence and drink it in place of regular water every few hours. This not only helps ease your problem, but the mint also refreshes the mouth and cures any bitter or sour taste left behind from indigestion.

Mix equal portions of honey and lemon in water and drink it. You can alsomix lime juice and honey in concentrated form and have a few drops every few minutes if you experience any nausea of have displeasing tastes left in the mouth.

Having a mixture of baking soda in a glass full of water helps give quick relief. This should not be repeated too often.

Massage the stomach with a little warmed garlic oil to relieve the stomach ache or pain and also help settle it better.

Cumin is good for the stomach, as is asafoetida. Use these as tempering while cooking, and they will help digest food and relieve stomach problems quickly.

Buttermilk is the best food while nursing an upset stomach. It helps fill the stomach without irritating it, and also keeps it light while making sure the body is hydrated.
