Mustard makes an excellent additive to many foods. It’s distinct taste makes it a favourite for those who have been able to cultivate a taste for mustard. It is used in the making of sauces, as butter, and even as tempering for many dishes. The taste apart, mustard also helps cure many ailments in the body.

Mustard is hot in action, pungent in taste, and also pungent in post digestive action. It subsides the air and water elements while aggravating the fire element in the body. It increases the appetite, improves digestion by promoting gastric secretion. It is used most often with asafoetida and cumin seeds for tempering.

Some varieties of mustard oils are used in winter to massage the skin and body. It is also used for cooking and frying. It is a carminative and appetizer. It is commonly used for clear menstrual flow. Pickles can be preserved longer when they are prepared in white mustard seed oil. Constipation can also be cures easily with the use of mustard oil. Today, unfortunately, refined oil has replaced the better used oils, and their use has decreased.

Nutmeg is hot in action, pungent, an phrodisiac , digestive aromatic. It is useful in diarrhoea, dysentry and abdominal colic. It is good for the throat. It has a bitter and astringent taste and its post digestive action is pungent. It has an oil which is applied to pain in the joints and also dental acvities. The dry fruit is rubbed and is used to cure headaches. Nutmeg helps bring about formed stool. It has a slight constipative tendency.

Mace is the cover of nutmeg. It is slightly sweet in action. It helps cure anorexia, nausea, cold and worms. It freshens the mouth because of its fragrance. It is used to cure diarrhoea, dysentry and indigestion.
