Skincare During Pregnancy

December 27, 2008

They say that it is most important to take care of the self during pregnancy. This is not only important for the growing baby inside, but also for the lady herself.

It is widely believed that pregnancy gives an unmistakable glow. This is not always the case. Sometimes, the skin can start to look tired and worn out. It begins to look lifeless and dull. Pigmentation of the skin is also common. This is caused due to the large number of hormonal changes taking place in the body. Another contributing factor is iron supplements prescribed to the mother during pregnancy. Skin lightening creams and bleaching can help in curing this problem.

As the second trimester progresses, and the bulge starts to show more obviously, the skin starts to develop strecth marks. While the baby lives in the mother for only nine months, the stretch marks can stay for life.

It is important to use Vitamin E supplements on the skin to keep it tight and prevent stretch marks. During the morning, it is better to use a Vitamin E cream that is light and non-sticky. Try using Vitamin E oil on the stomach and other affected areas before retiring at night, since they are more effective.

This is the time the skin starts to age, owing to hormonal changes within. While it is uncommon for ladies to visit the salon and undergo beauty treatments during pregnancy, it may be worthwhile to get the occasinal facial to help keep the skin toned and help retain its youth.

Many women encounter excess hair fall during this stage. Massages and deep conditioning are good to help keep the hair cared for. Oiling the hair may also help in keeping it better cared for. Try and keep the hair tied as much as possible, and avoid using too many chemicals and products on the hair.
