Some Easy Stress Reducing Techniques

May 28, 2009

Stress adversely affects our physical health. Although, we cannot eliminate stress completely from our daily lives, but nonetheless, we can try to reduce its affect on our health.

Meditation

The role of meditation is universally accepted as a natural remedy to eliminate stress. Meditation helps to sooth the mind and helps to calm the disturbed brain waves. The stress bursting action of meditation consequently reduces the heartbeat and lowers the level of blood pressure – the two infamous side effects of stress.

Meditation process

Although, we are aware of the beneficial aspect of meditation in reducing stress, but hardly are we aware of the correct meditation technique. To practice meditation, you should first choose a quite spot of your room. Now seat straight, close your eyes and follow a deep and slow breathing rhythm. Now focus on your breathing.

Alternatively, you can open your eyes and focus your vision on a burning candle or an object, such as a flower or a religious object. Stay in this position as long as possible. As soon as your mind starts wandering, consciously bring in back to focus on the object. In the beginning, it would be difficult to concentrate for over two to three minutes. With practice, you can increase your concentration for more than half an hour.

Acupressure

As you see stress building up, take a few minutes off your busy schedule to reduce stress with acupressure. Put your palms at the back of your neck, on both sides of the spine. Take deep breath as you gently press the base of your neck with your fingers. Now gently massage your neck, moving your fingers two centimeters inwards and outwards over the spine. Give yourself a tight hug with your hands. Repeat this process three to four times.

Foot massage

Foot massage can be quite relaxing at the end of the day. Instead of going to a masseur, you can massage your feet yourself. Cover the bottom of a tub with pebbles. Now fill the tub with warm water and add a few drops of any essential oil. Immerse your feet in the water and move them over the pebbles.
