Sticking To Your Diet

December 8, 2008

We all begin dieting with very great resolve, and the enthusiasm is unbeatable. With the coming days and weeks, the mind starts to wander, and we want to give in to temptation. There are cravings for foods, and the very sight of anything delicious makes us weak. There are many ways to work around diets without letting the body and mind be completely deprived. Here’s how.

DIETING ALONE NEVER WORKS

If you are attempting to lose weight, simple abstinence from foods is not enough. Dieting may help you lessen the number of calories you might otherwise put on with regular eating, but remember that you have to consciously lose the excess weight. Exercise is a must along with dieting. Without weight loss, you will start to find your diet ineffective and lose the will to stick with it.

SET REALISTIC GOALS

Make sure you understand your body well – both from the perspective of dieting and exercise. Set yourself targets that you can see yourself achieving. Setting more real targets not only makes you more motivated, but also works in getting results better.

REWARD YOURSELF

Each time you have achieved a target, reward yourself before you set another one. You might feel that this is a little unnecessary, but you will find that even a small reward like a diet treat is worth looking forward to and make the next target more interesting.

NEVER STARVE YOURSELF

Listen to the body. If it demands certain foods, give in. The body makes demands based on what it requires, and especially while exercising, the body requires sustenance to keep it going, otherwise you might just collapse.

EAT ALL FOODS

Every food type has a place and relevance to the body. Make sure you have balanced all food types in your meals. Fats are also important for the body. Only, make sure you have healthy fats that do not deposit in the body but are burnt well. Almonds, and other dry fruits are good snacks, but must be eaten in conservative amounts occasionally. Similarly, make sure you add some amounts of oil to your foods, as they are necessary in keeping the body lubricated. Use varieties like virgin olive oil to keep fat levels low.
