Stomach Cramp Remedy

Stomach cramps may occur due to several reasons. There are some common as well as extremely rare reasons for having stomach cramps.

Causes of stomach cramps

Diarrhea, heartburn, lactose intolerance, food poisoning, depression, gastritis, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome and heart attack are the most common causes of stomach cramps. Stomach cramps are characterized by squeezing painful sensation that cyclically increases and decreases for a certain span of time.

Although, stomach cramps originate in the stomach, but stomach ailments are always not responsible for the cramps. Irritable bowel syndrome, which affects the intestine, can be responsible for your stomach cramps. Lactose intolerance, caused by inability to digest lactose present in milk and milk products, can also produce stomach cramps.

Certain ailments, such as Diverticulosis, in which small pouches filled bacteria or stools develop on wall of the small bowel, can produce stomach cramps. Mental stress is also sometimes responsible for causing stomach cramps.

Stomach cramp remedy

Stomach cramps are the symptoms of different types of diseases. Curing these ailments will cure your stomach cramps as well. However, certain remedies can be applied for specifically reducing stomach cramps.

Maintaining a proper diet can help prevent stomach cramps. Drink at least eight glasses of water to ease your bowel movements. Constipation is often responsible for stomach cramps. Fiber rich vegetables and foods will also help to prevent constipation.

Stay away from food, which have not been prepared hygienically. Contaminated food is responsible for viral infections and food poisoning responsible for causing stomach cramps. If you suffer from lactose intolerance, stay away from milk and milk products.

If gas build up in your intestine is responsible for stomach cramps, stay away from fatty or oily foods and foods such as cabbages, beans and onions, which might be responsible for increasing gas production.

Stress is also considered responsible for producing muscle cramps. Try to relax your mind to keep mental stress and anxiety under control. Breathing exercises can help in mental relaxation.

Herbs, such as aloe vera can help to reduce stomach cramps. Drinking chamomile tea can help to reduce stomach cramps. Peppermint tea mixed with fennel seeds can also cure the cramps.
