Stressing The Point


Today stress is a word that finds very common use in our day to day lives. Not only for those at work, but even children, housewives and the elderly have fallen victims to this condition. While stress alone cannot be considered an ailment, it is definitely one of the most serious causes for most disorders in the body. Stress has been known to cause problems like thyroid, blood pressure, asthma, diabetes and heart ailments. And while stress has really no cure, the only way we can exercise our discretion is by making conscious changes in our lifestyle.

Stress is caused largely by the factors around us. Pressures at the workplace, the people we move around with, the growing demands in our life, and changes in the way we have begun to affect our state of well-being.

Stress can be combated easily in the following ways:

- Engage in some form of exercise. Make sure you keep time aside for either yoga, working out at the gym, or aerobics. Not only is this refreshing for the mind and body, but also gives much needed energy to the self.

- Find a hobby. Choose some form of recreation that you can pursue. This will prove a useful diversion.

- Make a club of friends that have similar interests who you can meet on a regular basis.

- Take up meditation or silent sitting that will give you time alone to unwind and also retrospect.

- Eat regular meals. Often, we tend to get more irritable and lose our tempers because of inadequate food. Make breakfast a ritual and you will notice an immediate difference in the way you feel.

- Make sure you take some time off and go to another place. Changes in place often give new orientation and help you leave other troubles behind. This will leave you more charged to tackle mundane issues when you return.

Stress is something that can really bog you down. Taken in the right stride, some pressure can also help bring out the best in you. Decide how you want to deal with the rigour of life and that will help shape your future.
