Sweet Cures with Honey
November 10, 2008
Honey is a nectar and perhaps the first naturopathic medicine and perhaps the first naturopathic medicine used for many ages. Honey contains fat soluble and water soluble vitamins. It is easily digestiblr and not harmful for the body.
Pure and unadulterated honey is sweet, astringent, hot in actions, and its post digestive action is slightly pungent. It is good for health and better used in place of white sugar. It liquefies phlegm and expels it through the sweat, urine and faeces.
Honey is a good tonic for children given in the form of marmalades, jam and pastries. There are many bitter powders and decoctions or herb like juices we often find difficult to take, where honey can be used to advantage.
Honey finds diffreent uses depending on where it is from, and also how long it has been preserved. While new honey is considered to be a demulcent and laxative, honey which is over a hundred years old is used as an astringent.
Honey should be taking in moderation. It provides energy, vim. vigour, and vitality. Lime juice with a little lukewarm water stirred very well balances the secretion of hormones. Used all year round, and taken on an empty stomach, it helps reduce fat. Honey is slightly hypnotic and therefore given to young infants, it brings them sound sleep.
When honey is mixed with some medicated herbs and made into an ointment, it can be applied to the eyes using a glass rod. This brings out the heat from the eyes, cures conjunctivitis and other disorders. It also improves the strength of the eyes.
Massage of the ears, head and application of honey to the eyes and application of honey to the throat keeps all the senses in order. Purified borax mixed with honey helps cure mouth sores.
Honey has many virtues. It is best to cure the water element in the body. Make honey a substitute for artificial sugars and the body will not only reap many benefits but will also not suffer from unnecessary ills.
