The Right Way to Diet

October 23, 2008

It is virtually impossible to cut out all foods from our diet entirely. Losing weight, then becomes very distressing. Foods need to be eaten in proper quantities and forms to ensure that their effect is channelised in the right manner.

LIQUIDS

Cut out all artificial beverages like fizzy drinks, packaged juices, and heavily sweetened buttermilk. Also minimise the consumption of tea and coffee as they contain large amounts of milk and sugar. If needed, make your tea or coffee yourself to regulate the intake, but avoid dispensed forms altogether. Instead, drink plenty of water. The best thirst quencher, this will made hardly any difference to the calories you are adding up.

Avoid too many natural fruit juices since all fruits tend to be sweeet, and their juice goes into the bloodstream directly and injects sugars instantly. Green tea is a good beverage to switch to instead of regular tea since it is more healthy and also helps in burning calories better. Green tea has the potential of increasing the metabolic rate and helps keep weight in check. Buttermilk, which is natural or salted is an ideal drink as it cools, quenches and has little fat. Make sure the curd used is made from skimmed milk, though.

FOODS

Opt for wholegrain foods instead of the processed variety. They do not really help curb calorific value, but have the tendency to fill the stomach faster, and hence the intake is reduced. They also halp keep the system regulated and lower the incidence of constipation. Thus, it is easier to maintain cleaner lines. Use wholegrain pasta, bread and rice and see the difference it makes.

Have smaller helpings per meal. It may be a little difficult intially, but you will find the amount of food you crave will lessen as you make this a practice. A useful tip might be to start using a smaller plate while serving yourself a meal.

Simple tips go a long way in helping achieve large goals. Small milestones achieved motivate and make the going more fun.
