The Role and Importance of Calcium in Our Lives
The importance of strong teeth and bones through life cannot be overemphasised. We need them both to function well till the end to make sure that life goes on smoothly. One resource that is primarily responsible for this is calcium.
Calcium is important for everyone, and moreso for women. It helps work the hormones and glands better and prevents you from being overweight. It helps keep blood pressure in check. It keeps the arteries clear and prevent blockages. It can help prevent to onset of osteoporosis and other bone disorders.
Although there are many calcium supplements available today, not all of them are absorbed into the human body easily. Milk is another product that is known to be rich in clcium but has poor absorption. Other natural foods, although less known, can help increase the intake of calcium manifold.
Sunlight has a large amount of natural calcium. Try and give yourself some sunshine, best given before eleven in the morning, and after three.
Vitamin C helps maintain collagen in the tomato that strengthens teeth and bones well. The required amount everyday is about four tomatoes. Only, it is better that they are had raw.
Leafy greens have the highest amounts of calcium. Corriander, fenugreek, spinach all have enough calcium which can be absrobed into the blood very easily. Easily available, broccoli is another vegetable that has loads of calcium.
Yogurt has plenty of calcium and makes a great end to your meals.
Oranges, pines and prunes are great sources of calcium and make very good, healthy alternatives to mid-meal snacks.
Green peas can be added to almost all foods. Do not get mislead by their size, they pack a large amount of calcium in their small size servings.
Soya is a good source of calcium which makes a good alternatives to those who are lactose intolerant.
