Thrush Remedies
Thrush is the overgrowth of the fungi seen on the mucous membrane that lines the tongue and mouth. It is caused by Candida albicans and is also known as candidiasis or yeast infection. These fungi lives in the stomach under normal condition also, but in controlled manner.
When your immune system becomes weak fungi will flourish and cause whitish and velvety lesions inside your mouth. Beneath this whitish coating there will be a reddish colored tissue that may bleed easily. The number and size of these lesions increases with time.
Thrush is very common in infants and in diabetic patients. Increased intake of high dose antibiotics may also kill the beneficial bacteria in the mouth and thus leads to the over growth of the fungus. Here are some remedies that help you to get rid of this problem.
Remedies for Thrush
Yogurt
Yogurt is found to have a lot of beneficial bacteria called acidophilus and hence taking yogurt is a good remedy for thrush. Instead of eating yogurt you can also apply yogurt on the whitish patches on the mouth. Butter milk is also good for thrush treatment.
If your infant have this problem then it may get transferred to your nipple through breast feeding. Hence you need to apply it on your nipple too.
Psyllium Seeds
Put some psyllium seeds in water and allow it to swell for the entire night. This makes a gel like consistency on the next morning and you can apply it on the whitish patches. This will remove the patches in three days time but you need to continue the application for three more weeks to prevent the reappearance of thrush.
Aloe Vera Gel
Apply aloe vera gel or juice on the affected area and it helps you to get rid of the infection.
Baking Soda
Add one teaspoon of baking soda to eight ounces of water and dissolve it very well. Use this solution to wipe the affected areas.
While having thrush you need to avoid foods that trigger the fungi. Avoid all those foods that contain yeast. Also avoid dried fruits, alcohol, pickle, high sugar, mushroom etc to alleviate the thrush infection.
