Tonsilitis In Children

Almost very one of us has experienced trouble with the tonsils at some stage in our lives. It can be a rather troubling ailment, causing great problems in eating and swallowing. It is a little more disturbing in children as parents worry over their child’s recovery, and wondering if operating will be necessary.
The tonsils are an extension of lymph nodes present in three areas around the nose and throat. These are placed strategically as filters in the nose and throat to prevent foreign particles from entering the body. They help screen dirt, dust and infections from entering the nose and the throat.
Infections in the tonsils occur when they are either exposed to too much of pollutants that cause them irritation and wound them. Also, severe infections that set in could also trigger affected tonsillitis. This condition can affect children and adults alike.
Children are especially prone to tonsilitis. While their bodies are not as sophisticated as that of elders since they are still developing, they can sometimes be more susceptible to infections. Additionally, these infections are ways in which their immunity is developed.
Children between the ages of three and six are most likely to be affected by tonsilitis since this is typically the age when they start to go to school, and also develop more complex body functions. The tendency to catch infections from outside and also from other children is the highest among this lot.
Care for tonsilitis in children mainly involves some medical intervension. With simple medication it shouldbe arrested easily, although the most common infection of the tonsil should last for about three to four days. Should it persist, there might be other treatment involved.
There are some instances where the infection is not cured completely and some traces are left lingering in the inside of the tonsil. In such cases, there might be recurrent attacks. This would call for stronger doses of medication. In the most severe cases where tonsilitis is uncurable completely, and attacks are frequent, surgical removal on the tonsil might be required.
