August 7, 2009

The gastro esophageal reflux disease also known as GERD is referred to a condition in which semi-digested food from stomach backs up into esophagus causing irritation, ache and soreness due to powerful and acidic digestive enzymes mixed in food.

The main symptoms of gastro esophageal reflux disease comprises of heartburn, irritation in esophagus, burning sensation in esophagus, taste of eaten food in mouth and mild cough accompanied with nausea.

Gastro esophageal reflux disease is caused by excessive smoking, alcoholism, obesity. Over-consumption of spices, aerated beverages and junk foods are also contributory factors that trigger GERD in a person. Given below are tried and tested remedies for the treatment of gastro esophageal reflux disease.

Pineapple – Eating raw pineapples several times a day releases an enzyme known as bromelain into body. Bromelain paces up the digestive process by breaking proteins and assists in rapid healing of gastro esophageal reflux disease. It is essential to consume fresh pineapples for optimum results as preserved pineapples do not contain the valuable enzymes.

Wegewarte Root – A tea prepared by boiling ½ cup of wegewarte root in two cup boiling water should be consumed post cooling several times a day for treatment of GERD. For optimum results, it is advisable to drink this tea at least two times during a day for 10 days. Regular intake of wegewarte root tea results in diminishing of esophagus inflammations and provides relief from abdominal pain, esophageal irritation and heartburn.

Avoid – A person suffering with symptoms of GERD should avoid alcoholism, smoking, tea and coffee. It is recommended to consume petite meals instead of full meals to aid proper digestion of food and prevent acid reflux in esophageal. There ought to be a gap of two and half hours between last meal and sleep. Also, during day time, one should not leave stomach empty as it will trigger the accumulation of bile and acidic enzymes in stomach. Persons suffering from GERD should avoid wearing tight waist garments.

In case, if symptoms persists for an elongated duration, the patient should immediately consult an authorized medical practitioner for diagnose of additional ailments and disorders.
