Treating Dry Skin

November 5, 2008

It is difficult to keep dealing with overly dry skin. With the onset of the colder months, the problem intesifies as the skin does not respond to creams easily. Care for this type of skin in the winter is essential.

Start by using almond oil on the face, hands and feet. This is a heavier oil and keeps the skin more moist. Rub the oil into the skin and massage for a few minutes. Leave in the skin for between twenty minutes and half an hour before having a bath. This will help the skin regain lost glow. After having a bath, use some moisturiser to keep moist.

A tried facial for dry skin is great, since all skin care products are found at home.

Start by cleansing the face using cotton soaked in cold, unboiled milk. Cleanse the face thoroughly. A great scrub can be made using uncooked rice. Take some rice and grind it very coarsely. To this, add some milk and apply over the face. Using the fingers in clean movements, rub the face and exfoliate the dead cells, blackheads and whiteheads well.

Take a banana and mash it well. To this add some cold milk and a little honey. Apply this to the face and neck regions and massage well for about fifteen minutes. Those with severe dryness can massage the skin for longer. Longer durations of massage are also advised for those above thirty years of age. If you have any skin problems like pimples or acne, avoid massaging for too long.

If you have not understood the proces sof massaging well, avoid applying pressure to any pressure points on the face. Stick to gentle circular movements using the fingers. Once this is done, wash the face well with cold water.

Finally, make a face pack using some sandal powder, fuller’s earth and milk. If you have very dry skin, avoid using fuller’s earth. You may add some fresh cream instead. Apply the pack for twenty minutes and wash thoroughly. This will help restore moisture to the face. Administer this facial once in ten days to keep dryness away through the winter.
