Treating Lyme Disease Naturally
July 30, 2009
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that infects both humans and animals. A bacteria known as borrelia burgdorferi is responsible for the infection.
This bacterium is carried by deer ticks. You could get Lyme disease if you are bitten by a deer tick carrying the borrelia burgdorferi bacteria.
After the Lyme disease causing bacteria is injected in the blood stream through tick bite, it spreads throughout the body, attaches to the tissues, joints, nervous system, and sometimes even to the body organs.
Hence, Lyme disease simultaneously affects several parts of the body. The earlier Lyme disease is diagnosed in a person, the better and speedier will be his chances of recovery. In rare cases, Lyme disease can cause permanent damage.
Appearance of mild rashes is the initial symptom of Lyme disease. The rashes may or may not begin from the insect bite site. The rash generally appears within one to two weeks after the tick bite. The rash is reddish in color and spreads around a central point.
The rash might not itch or pain. Along with the rash, one might experience joint pain, fever, chill and fatigue. If the disease is not treated at this stage, when most of the symptoms are mild in nature, the infection could become more serious. As the infection spreads further, the infected person experiences extreme exhaustion, pain in the neck and the neck becomes stiff.
The bacterium affects the peripheral nervous system, causing numbness of palms and feet and paralysis of the face. Lyme disease, in the later stage, can also lead to arthritis, joint inflammation, headaches, cognitive failure and heart problems.
Natural remedies for Lyme disease
Animals and birds are the prime carrier of Lyme disease infected ticks. Certain regions are infested with ticks. It is advisable to be extremely cautious while traveling in tick-infested regions. In these areas, one must stay away from vegetation, soil, wild birds and animals.
You should wear properly covered clothes and shoes. When Lyme disease is diagnosed, antibiotics are prescribed for treatment. You should boost your immunity by consuming three to four cloves of garlic every day. To reduce the fever and chill, take golden seal and Echinacea. You can also take bilberry to reduce the discomfort.
