Treating Pancreatitis
The proteins, carbohydrates and fats that enters our digestive system through food, are broken down in the small intestine with the help of digestive juices. These digestive juices are secreted in the pancreas.
In addition, insulin and glucogen hormones are also produced by the pancreas. Insulin helps the body to absorb glucose. If this important organ of our body becomes inflamed, various problems develop. Inflammation of the pancreas is known as pancreatitis.
Pancreatitis causes
In normal conditions, digestive enzymes produced in the pancreas become active only when they flow into the small intestine. However, if for some reason, these digestive enzymes are activated in the pancreas itself, it causes irritation in the pancreas, causing inflammation.
The risk of pancreatitis is high among people suffering from gallstones, cystic fibrosis, ulcer, pancreatic cancer, abdominal injury, high triglyceride level, hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism. Alcohol abuse and smoking can also cause pancreatitis. Pancreatitis can also be hereditary.
