Treatment For Bed Bug Bite
Nothing can be as difficult as sleeping on a bed infested with bed bugs. Bed bugs are tiny flightless insects that could grow up to 7mm long. These nocturnal insects hide during the day and become active during the time.
They are reddish brown in color, their red color become brighter when they suck blood from their human victims. Since the bed bugs secrete a numbing substance at the bite site, usually one does not experience any itching or irritation when the bed bug sucks blood from the body. Although, no major illness is caused by these bugs, but people allergic to bed bug bites can develop severe complications at the bite site.
Symptoms of bed bug bites
If you discover tiny bed bugs crawling on the bed, and there are red bumps on your skin, you can easily conclude that you have been bitten by the bugs. Bed bug bites appear as small red raised bumps. Although, you will not experience pain or itching the moment the bed bug sucks your blood, the site of the bite starts itching after some time.
There may be single bumps or several bumps clustered together. Excess scratching of the bite site might lead to skin infection. If you are allergic to bed bug bites, the site of the bite could swell to form large bumps up to 20cm in diameter. The bumps might develop into blister like lesions.
Bed bug bite home remedies
The irritation and itching usually subsides naturally. People extremely sensitive to allergic reactions caused by bed bug bites might need specific medications. Often your pets might be infested with bed bugs. To keep your house free from bed bugs, you should always ensure that your pets are free from this menacing pest.
To reduce the itching, cortisone topical creams are often recommended by physicians. Antihistamines could help to provide relief from the allergic reactions. To avoid infection, you should not scratch the bite site. To reduce the itching, make a paste with baking soda and water and apply it at the bed bug bite site.
